Hello and Welcome

Thanks for stopping in. I’m Bonnie Schetski an artist, teacher/mentor and lover of nature.

As you float through my website you’ll see all of my work starts at the source of water. I’m inspired by walking the banks of river, splashing in the cool mist of a waterfall or just floating lazily on a lake in my kayak. I find restoration and tranquility in these places.  I hope my work evokes a similar response as you go for an adventure through my site.

An expert in helping others find their creative voice.

Have you always wanted to pursue art but not sure where to start? Have you been told you don’t have a creative bone in your body? Do you take endless classes but don’t seem to be progressing in your artistic voice?

If you answered yes to any of these questions then you are not alone. I have been teaching art for 20+ years and believe me, I’ve seen and heard it all. I myself have drifted through the arduous and turbulent waters, pressing through the rocks and hard places of being a creative. Sometimes we need to press into the rock instead of press into the current. Other times, (most often) your journey needs a little assistance and a mentor to help you along the way.

I did what I was suppose to do. I wanted to be a professor and teach college. I wanted to spread the joy of printmaking. So I persuade another degree to add to my list of accomplishment. But after three long years of critical critiques my creativity had been squelched. Upon receiving my masters degree, I had no longer been excited to create, to explore and experiment. Creating art became a painful experience. So I can empathize with people who come to me and tell me things like, “I was told as a child and can’t draw.” or “I don’t have a creative bone in my body, yet I used to enjoy making things when I was younger.” The truth is we are all designed to be creative. If that’s being a master at creating and managing your families schedule, wood working, cake decorating or crocheting. We were all designed to be creative.

My passion is to help you find your own creative voice and expression. I help individuals find their natural artistic strengths and provide encouragement along the voyage. Together we explore new creative processes, challenge traditional notions of art and sprinkle in some art history along the way. That’s why here at Bonseye Studio creativity Grows!

Because of my love for nature, exploration/travel and knowledge. I try to take my classes outdoors during the summer months. I love exploring unexpected locations, not well known by the general public. It always amazes me the beauty that is hidden in our own backyard.

When we spend time in nature our blood pressure slows down, the tension in our body releases and our senses are overwhelmed with the sounds, textures and sights. We are fully functioning in our innate design. Science has proven over and over again that people who spend more time in nature and green spaces have improved working memory, cognitive flexibility and greater attention. Drawing is Proven to Aid in Memory

According to a study done at Waterloo University, A group of scientists studied participants ability to retrain information through reading, writing, listening to lectures

Combine that with learning a new skill and your neurotransmitters go crazy, strengthening your brain muscles, visualizing and drawing. The study results showed that the brain works best with an individual is drawing something they are learning. The image doesn’t have to look identical. The researchers also suggest that drawing results in better recall because of how the information is encoded in memory. When a student draws a concept, they “must elaborate on its meaning and semantic features, engage in the actual hand movements needed for drawing (motor action), and visually inspect [the] created picture (pictorial processing).” Edutopia:George Lucas Educational Foundation

So not only does Bonnie’s Class help with stress management, over all body health, but we enhance our memory function as well. It’s a win for everyone taking classes with me.

“As someone fairly new to studio art, I find that Bonnie’s classes provide the perfect combination of challenge, instruction, critique and encouragement.”

- Celia Margolis (Year 2)

I’ve taken Bonnie’s classes for several years including drawing, watercolor, pastels, color theory, and urban sketching. One of her most valuable assets as a teacher is her ability to meet every student where they are in terms of experience and ability. Her persona is very upbeat and positive and she has a knack for combining critique and suggestions in a most encouraging manner. Her classes always include a mix of well-planned instruction, free time to work, and class review at the end of each session.
