Promises

It started as any normal morning, yet a small gentle voice whispered, grab your sketchbook and watercolors and let’s hike to the Stephan Falls today. Unknowing, I was excited about a day away from the studio. I packed up my bag and hit the road. Waterfalls, a place of restoration for my soul. As I walked along the trail I got caught up in the trickling of water, observing light flashing on the surface of the water. (White Writing Collection) I sketched, took photos and then went on my way. It was again a still small voice whispering, “Grab your iPhone camera, binoculars and observe those things far, far away.” To my amazement, what I saw was serendipitous. The perfect marriage of abstraction, light and color dancing as the water fell from the tall heights then bounced off the rocks and surfaces below. This was a healing moment for me. I had lost the joy of creating art. It had become so heady from all those years of schooling and rules. My creative voice had been squelched. Until this moment, I had simply been creating from knowledge.

This series changed it all. A joy and delight returned to my artistic soul I hadn’t felt in years. The joy, play, and experimentation I had so enjoyed as a child was expressed in this moment. I hope that you too will find inspiration in the promises that are laid out in these images, just as God has made these promise long ago.
